Help center / Sending documents
Private mode and identity checks
End-to-end encryption, access codes and WorkOfficially ID confirmation.
Standard and Private
Every document is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded. The difference is who holds the key:
- Standard: the key is locked with our server key, so we can send email copies, run reminders, routing rules and integrations, and help you if you get stuck.
- Private (end-to-end) Pro and up: the key is locked with a document password that never reaches us. Nobody at Sign Officially can open the document.
Send a private document
- In step 4, under Privacy, choose Private (end-to-end).
- Enter a Document password of at least 8 characters, Repeat password, and an optional Hint.
- Tell your signers the password yourself, by phone or in person. It is not in the email.
We cannot recover a lost document password. Keep it somewhere safe. Private documents are not attached to completion emails, not saved to Google Drive or Dropbox, not included in bulk ZIP downloads, and cannot use routing rules.
Checking who signs
You can add any of these in step 4, together if you like:
- Emailed code: tick Extra check: signers also enter a one-time code we email them. Off unless you tick it.
- Access code: an extra password you share with signers yourself.
- WorkOfficially ID: Signers confirm who they are with their WorkOfficially ID, where available.
- Photo ID and selfie: in step 2, Check ID (photo ID and selfie) for: the people you choose Business, where available.
Every check passed is recorded in the audit trail and on the certificate.
