Edit PDF

Change the text and pictures already in a PDF, or add text, images, shapes and notes.

Edit PDF works like a desktop PDF editor in your browser. Add your PDF, pick a tool on the left, then click on the page.

Change the text already in the PDF

  1. Pick Edit text. Every piece of text you can change gets a dashed outline.
  2. Click a line or paragraph and type over it, like in a word processor.
  3. In the panel on the right you can change the Size, make it Bold or Italic, change Align, turn on Wrap lines to the box width, or Delete this text. The colour box on the right changes its colour.
  4. Press Download edited PDF.

The old words are taken out of the page and your text is written in their place, in the same size and colour and the closest matching font. Nothing is just covered up, so the old text cannot be copied or searched afterwards.

If a line mixes bold and normal words, the edited line comes out in one style. Select it and press B to set it. Text inside a scan is a picture, not text: run OCR PDF first, or use White-out and Add text.

Find and replace

In the right panel, type the words to find and what to replace them with, tick Match case or Whole words only if you need them, and press Replace all. Every match is changed at once, and the panel says how many. Use Undo to take it all back.

Move, replace or delete pictures

  1. Pick Edit images. Pictures get a blue outline.
  2. Click a picture. Drag it to move it, or drag its corner to resize it.
  3. Use Replace picture to put a new JPG or PNG in its place, or Delete picture to remove it from the file.

Add things on top

The other tools add to the page: Add text, Text box (text that wraps onto new lines), Add image, Highlight, Underline, Strikeout, Comment, White-out, Rectangle, Ellipse, Line, Check mark and Signature. Highlights, underlines, strikeouts and comments are saved as real annotations that other PDF readers can show, edit and reply to.

Undo and redo

Use the Undo and Redo buttons, or Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z (Cmd on a Mac). Undo all changes to this text or picture puts back one item.

Where your file goes, and the monthly allowance

  • Adding text, shapes, highlights, comments and signatures happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Changing the text and pictures already in the PDF is done on our servers when you press Download. The file is deleted straight after.
  • That second kind of change is free 5 times a month (each download counts once, however many changes it has). Pro, Business and Enterprise have no limit. The number left is shown under the Download button.
